Associate Director for Community-Engaged Learning

Job Description Summary:

The Associate Director for Community-Engaged Learning works to provide students with a multitude of curricular and co-curricular community engagement opportunities. Working in collaboration with colleagues in Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, student organizations, and a wide range of community organizations, the Associate Director develops and supports programs designed to help students combine their personal, academic and career interests with their desire to make worthwhile contributions in their communities. To achieve this, the Associate Director will facilitate broad-based, interdisciplinary efforts linking action to co-curricular initiatives (e.g. student organizations, Residence Life, Greek Life), teaching and research, in Oxford, the Greater Cincinnati region, the United States, and around the globe

Primary Responsibilities
The Associate Director for Community-Engaged Learning will report to the OCES Director and work closely with colleagues in both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to help set strategic direction, facilitate campus-wide participation in community engagement around public challenges, design and administer program assessment and evaluation tools, identify and pursue external funding opportunities, and produce/support Community-Engaged teaching, research, and scholarship.

Campus & Community Asset Development
·         Identify, develop and maintain partnerships with nonprofit, municipal, school, campus, and industry partners, in Oxford, Ohio, across the country, and around the world, to engage in and advance learning and action related to curricular and co-curricular activities at Miami University;
·         Identify local/regional assets and challenges around which cross-divisional and interdisciplinary community engagement initiatives can align
·         Collaborate closely with and serve as a connector among Miami University’s other community-related initiatives and offices;
·         Serve as a liaison between the Community Placed-Based Interdisciplinary Program (CPBIP), OCES, and relevant community partner agencies;
·         Supervise OCES Student Leaders to facilitate growth of current initiatives;
·         Attend weekly staff meetings and help to support OCES events, programs and initiatives;
·         Establish systems to assess community engagement programs and conduct formative assessment throughout the year;
·         Represent OCES on campus and in the community at events and presentations; and
·         Identify grant opportunities and work with Director to draft and submit proposals for the same.

Community-Engaged Teaching, Research, and Scholarship
·         Recruit and advise faculty to incorporate Service-Learning and other forms of Community Engagement into their courses and programs;  
·         In collaboration with the Director, work with a Faculty Advisory Council to expand forms of Community-Engaged teaching, research, and scholarship across Miami University;
·         Lead the Miami University Service-Learning Designation Committee and administer the S-L designation process;
·         Assist in management of CPBIP’s Faculty-Partner Learning Community;
·         Generate faculty engagement newsletters highlighting resources, publication and conference opportunities, funding, showcased faculty, and other items of interest;
·         Provide effective informational outreach through presentations and discussions with departments, schools, and others, as needed;
·         In collaboration with OCES staff, develop and maintain systems for matching courses and projects with partners for community engagement and Service-Learning;  
·         Identify, curate, and develop new resources and tools to help with course revision and development;  
·         Working with the Office’s Director and Academic Affairs, establish systems to assess Service-Learning and community engagement learning outcomes and assist with assessment activities; and
·         Actively participate in and contribute to national and international community engagement networks.
