[Announcement from he-sl listserv]

Date: March 14th, 2013
Time: 3:00pm - 4:00pm EST (2:00 PM Central, 1:00 PM Mountain, 12:00 PM Pacific)

Many individuals want to learn more about service before making a long-term commitment. Incorporating episodic volunteer and service assignments allows programs to engage new populations of individuals, including Veterans and people with disabilities, in service assignments. The presentation, hosted by the National Service Inclusion Project (NSIP) will include information on identifying who episodic volunteers are and how they can take part in your organization. The session will also focus on developing a plan to recruit episodic volunteers from new populations and integrating and supporting episodic volunteers in your organization.

Here is an overview of the topics during the presentation:
A. Overview of episodic volunteering, including what these volunteers do, who they help, and why organizations should take them seriously.
B. Review a process for building the infrastructure to recruit and support episodic volunteers.
C. Case study discussion examples of implementing this process and address potential opportunities and challenges for organizations getting started with episodic participants.
D. Action planning.

Date: March 21st, 2013
Time: 3:00pm - 4:00pm EST (2:00 PM Central, 1:00 PM Mountain, 12:00 PM Pacific)

How do we recruit our Wounded Warriors and Veterans to volunteer and serve in national service? Developing a partnership with military groups, sometimes challenging, is the effective route to go.

In order to build these effective partnerships, the National Service Inclusion Project (NSIP) presents "Mission Possible: Working Collaboratively and Building Relationships with Military Groups." Over the course of this presentation, participants will learn concrete, usable strategies to "get your foot in the door" at a military organization, discuss specific strategies to maintain partnerships with military groups and answering "What's in it for us," how to address and include veterans with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and more.

Here is an overview of the presentation topics:
A. Overview of the national movement to engage veterans and families in national service and volunteerism.
B. Introduction to Operation ABLE Community (OAC).
C. Perspectives from Military, Wounded Warriors Transition Unit staff and Veterans.
D. Open discussion of best practices and experiences engaging veterans and families.
