2013 Pedagogy of Privilege conference: Call for Papers, Presentations and Workshops

[Announcement from Comm-engagedscholarship]

2013 Pedagogy of Privilege Conference

CALL FOR PAPERS, PRESENTATIONS, & WORKSHOPS

August 5th & 6th, 2013
Craig Hall, Graduate School of Social Work
Chambers Center for the Advancement of Women, The Women’s College
University of Denver, Denver, Colorado

The conference organizing committee for the 2013 Pedagogy of Privilege conference invites proposals for papers, presentations, and workshops for the 2013 conference. All proposed papers, presentations, and workshops should address the issue of privilege from the aspect of teaching, learning, research or practice, and how privilege impacts these aspects of education, community services, community organizing and/or social justice work. Workshops may focus on specific types of privilege (male privilege, white privilege, heterosexual privilege, middle/upper class privilege, Christian privilege, believer privilege, U.S./American privilege, citizenship privilege, able-bodied privilege, cisgender privilege, settler privilege, monogamy relationship privilege, etc.), the intersection of two or more types of privilege, or about the dynamics of privilege in general.

In general, breakout sessions will be 2-hours long. On rare occasion, the conference organizing committee may consider an exceptional workshop spanning two breakout sessions. Academic and scholarly paper presentations typically should be no longer than 20-25 minutes in length, and will be grouped with other paper presentations based on similarity of theme. (Only a brief abstract needs to be submitted in response to this Call for Papers.) All types of sessions should allow for time at the end of the session for questions and dialogue with the audience.

In order for your workshop to be considered, the attachments included with this document must be completed and submitted with the proposal. No workshop will be considered without all of the requested information. All workshop proposals and attachments must be submitted by the Monday, April 22nd, 2013, 5:00 p.m. (MST) deadline. Proposals and accompanying documents should be emailed to privilege.conference@du.edu. Include your last name and the event name (ex: Jones – Pedagogy of Privilege). Only those proposals submitted via email will be considered.

Please use the following form to submit your workshop. No workshop will be considered without all of the requested information.
