Description:
The Center for Community Engagement and Service (CCES) is recruiting for a Program Coordinator of Community-Based Learning to join their team and their mission to create opportunities for American University students, staff, and faculty to engage responsibly with communities by cultivating mutually beneficial community partnerships to promote learning, leadership, and social change. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for social justice.    

The Program Coordinator for Community-Based Learning and Research (CBLR) is responsible for management of community-based learning initiatives across campus and the Freshman Service Experience, a DC community service program for incoming students. Responsibilities include overseeing the Community Service-Learning Program (CSLP), tracking and assisting evaluation of CBLR courses, cultivating relationships with local community partners, overseeing the continued development of EngageNet (an electronic student database and application and community partner database), supporting and training faculty, students, and community partners in CBL pedagogy, recruiting and training student leaders, coordinating large-scale events (including the three-day FSE program for 600 incoming students and two community partner fairs), and playing a leadership role in regional CBL networks.    
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree preferred.    
Minimum Requirements:
·  Three (3) years' experience in higher education or other forms of working with students in academic institutions to include experience in community service, service-learning, and issues of social justice
·  Demonstrated effectiveness cultivating and sustaining community partnerships and knowledge of the nonprofit sector in the DC area or another urban setting
·  Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to engage in  public speaking with a range of constituencies including students, faculty, staff, and community partners
·  Strong organizational skills with experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programs
·  Group facilitation and training experience
·  Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environment
·  Demonstrated experience in addressing issues of diversity and multiculturalism
·  Strong computer skills and experience with database management software
·  Meeting, event planning, and logistical skills
Preferred Requirements:
·  Website maintenance experience
·  Grant writing experience    
·  Financial management skills
