Dear Colleague,
Here are highlights for Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) in the month of October. Please join or renew your membership and stay connected to our events, activities and opportunities for engagement.

A Message from Al Richmond
I recently took a weeklong trip to Alabama and Mississippi, visiting with community and academic partners. While in Jackson, MS, I visited the Jackson Medical Mall which was developed through a partnership between Jackson State University, the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Tougaloo College. This innovative project turned an ailing retail center into a comprehensive healthcare facility that provides healthcare, human services, and economic development to the community. It serves as testament to the power of vision largely attributed to Dr. Aaron Shirley and can best be described as an anchor institution and point of community pride to the residents of Jackson.
Tougaloo College, in Tougaloo, AL, is a historic campus on the site of a former plantation and home to the Brown University - Tougaloo College Partnership. The partnership was birthed out of the civil rights movement and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Designed to enrich both campuses through student and faculty academic and cultural exchanges, this cooperative agreement creates a pipeline for Tougaloo graduates to pursue careers in medicine. In addition, the Jackson Heart Study Education and Training Program is located at Tougaloo College and has a stellar history in preparing students for careers in health and science.
As we look forward to the 2016 CCPH international conference in New Orleans, we do so with the intent to create a lasting footprint in the region. Stay connected to CCPH as we continue to reach out to expand the impact of our organization with new community-campus partnerships and join us in New Orleans.
