Book Club Open for Participation!

[Announcement from he-sl listserv]

Hello!

The Commission for Student Involvement in ACPA (American College Personnel Association) is hosting a book club for September & October, open for everyone to participate, regardless of professional association membership. We’ll be reading Building Playgrounds, Engaging Communities: Creating Safe and Happy Places for Children by Marybeth Lima.

This inspirational story goes deep into a 15 year journey with the Playground Project, an ongoing partnership with local schools creating accessible and healthy playgrounds.  This story highlights not only successes but also failures of the project and how individuals can overcome challenges as they work to create change in their community.  Marybeth Lima provides real examples and plans of how to implement similar projects including playgrounds, neighborhood gardens, and community dialogues in your community.

If you would like to participate please complete this form by Friday, September 6. If you participate with us, copies of the book can be purchased through the publisher with a 30% discount, e-mail Patrick Grayshaw, CSI Chair for Community Service & Service-Learning for more details. You can also get the book on Amazon.com or at your local bookstore, and of course you can always utilize your local library.

Participants will be invited to join a Facebook event and will receive a reading guide for the month of September, with digestion opportunities happening in October (more details will be shared). If you have any questions please e-mail Stacie Schultz, CSI Book Club Coordinator.

This book club is free and open to anyone, regardless of professional association membership.

Happy Readings!
