Accepting Nominations for Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement Editorial Board

The Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement is currently accepting applications for service as a member of its Editorial Board. We are especially interested in individuals who have experience in university-community engagement and have expertise in designing and conducting studies of impact. Thus, a strong research background and a record of engaged scholarship are important.

The mission of the Journal is to serve as the premier peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal to advance theory and practice related to all forms of outreach and engagement between higher education institutions and communities. This includes highlighting innovative endeavors; critically examining emerging issues, trends, challenges, and opportunities; and reporting on studies of impact in the areas of public service, outreach, engagement, extension, engaged research, community-based research, community-based participatory research, action research, public scholarship, service-learning, and community service.


What is required of a board member? A three-year commitment to

·       Peer review up to three manuscripts per year;
·       “Market” the Journal by encouraging submissions especially at, but not limited to, conferences attended and your college or university; and
·       Participation in an annual board meeting held concurrent with the National Outreach Scholarship Conference (Fall).

·       A personal statement that

o   describes in detail your experience and expertise related to university-community engagement, and
o   describes your research method expertise.

A selection committee comprising the associate editors and editorial board members will review the applications and select up to five new board members.
