International Center for Service-Learning in Teacher Education, Call for Proposals: Deadline Extended to Jan 6, 2012

[Announcement from HE-SL listserv]

The International Center for Service-Learning in Teacher Education (ICSLTE) is pleased to announce its call for proposals for our international conference Conversations that Matter III: Research, Practice and Policy. The conference will be held June 21-23, 2012 at Duke University.
ICSLTE is committed to sharing experience, practice, and research on service-learning in teacher education with colleagues throughout the world.  The conference will provide a forum for educators who embrace learning through active involvement with schools and the wider community.
We seek proposals that address work for the common good through academic learning and active civic engagement. We seek presenters who envision service-learning as a necessary component of teacher education, both pre-service (educating new teachers) and in-service (ongoing professional development for practicing employed teachers). We will select proposals that provide research-based insights, reflect critically on issues of policy and practice, and raise important questions for international discussion.
Proposals must be submitted by 9pm, PST January 6, 2012 and will be reviewed by an international committee of teacher educators, classroom teachers, and students.  Notification of acceptance will be on or before February 10, 2012.
For information regarding proposal submission or general questions about the conference, contact Kathy Sikes, Executive Administrative Director, Kathy.Sikes@duke.edu
