ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Director of
Community Engagement is a professional position involving the development,
planning and implementation of Community Engagement initiatives broadly at
Stetson University in support of the University's mission. The Assistant
Director assists the Director with development, coordination, and
administration of programs and activities that serve faculty, students, as well
as academic and student services units. The Assistant Director will advise and
empower multiple student organizations, cultivate and sustain relationships
with community partners, and coordinate the Bonner Scholars Program and
AmeriCorps Programs. They will provide strategic and transformational
leadership for community engagement in challenging and supporting students who
dare to be significant™.
QUALIFICATIONS: M.A required. At least two years’
experience in community engagement. Excellent community building; passion for
student development through cutting-edge national practices; ability to relate
well to students, parents, scholars, faculty, staff and others from diverse
cultural backgrounds; strong written and verbal communication skills; diligent
attention to detail and meticulous record-keeping including budgets; sound
professional judgment and a strong sense of ethics; ability to use personal
computers for word processing and database management; and the ability to work
effectively and successfully in engaging in a global and multicultural climate.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: In particular, the Assistant
Director will: work with community stakeholders on and off campus to develop
and maximize both existing and new relationships and initiatives; work with
community stakeholders ensuring all programs follow best practices in
assessment, including learning outcomes; work to increase the students
participating in quality high-impact learning practices and working to
integrate their learning into their overall student learning and development
experience. Successful candidates will be responsible for the following: Seek,
establish and maintain relationships within the Stetson Community and with
Community Partners with the goals of sustainable positive impact on the world
and on Stetson student learning and development. Ensure that monitoring systems
are in place to track assessment of student work in the community, including
learning outcomes. Responsible for the recruitment, appointment, supervision,
training and performance evaluation of AmeriCorps VISTAs and student
paraprofessional staff. Develop and implement a meaningful training and
enrichment program for the 50 Bonners, and create/improve/maintain a four-year,
developmental comprehensive Bonner model. Coordinate Bonner scholars students’
placement in the community sites. Promote the inclusion of community engagement
and global learning in the curriculum and co-curriculum. Identify fundraising
and/or grant opportunities and develop implementation plans to enhance funding
opportunities for the Center for Community Engagement. Support campus efforts around
community-engaged learning, including providing a linkage between the community
and students. Write/edit web-based and print publications and assessment
report. Maintain a strong working relationship with the Bonner Foundation,
Florida Campus Compact, and other community-engagement oriented institutions of
higher education. Perform other intentional duties that contribute to the
University mission as assigned including shared governance through community
work and a small amount of on-call responsibilities. Promote diversity within
the units and support existing University programs designed to create a
welcoming environment while ensuring academic success with all student. Serve
as part of the leadership team of the Community Engagement team. Provide success
coaching to students; provide support and resources to develop effective
self-determination and self-advocacy to reach students’ academic and personal
goals.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires some physical effort (i.e.,
standing and walking, light lifting (5-10 lbs.) and manual dexterity in the use
of fingers or limbs in the operation of office equipment; extended periods of
time at a keyboard, perceptual demands for sound, form, texture and depth.
