Assistant
Director, Academic Internships
Working
with a team in Loyola’s Center for Experiential Learning and reporting to the
Director of Experiential Learning, the Assistant Director, Academic Internships
position is an essential part of the community-based learning team
connecting high-impact learning practices through curriculum development.
Working closely with faculty, community partners, and students, the responsibilities
are highlighted below connecting academic internships to service-learning,
undergraduate research, and learning portfolios in Loyola’s Center for
Experiential Learning. Please share with interested parties broadly.
Major
Responsibilities:
- Administers all aspects of the undergraduate academic internship
program including, developing internship placements, cultivating and
maintaining relationships with department faculty/staff internship
coordinators, communicating regularly with key constituents to collaborate and
communicate internship policies and procedures college-wide.
- Advocates for enhancing experiential learning courses
- Advocates for enhancing experiential learning courses
- Develops
strong educational/curricular infrastructure for academic internships working
with faculty instructors

Develops consistency of experience for undergraduate students in academic
internships across university
-Cultivates relationships with community partners,
developing supervisors as co-educators to develop on-going internship
opportunities for Loyola students across all disciplines.
- Empower key civic, community, cultural, and business organizations to advance academic internship opportunities to be educational for students.
- Facilitates students navigation of on-campus resources to identify academic internship courses

-Partners
with campus resources (e.g., career development centers) to guide students into
programs and resources to support learning and exploration
- Presents on academic internship in classes and other programs to prepare students pursuing internships for academic credit.
- Teaches UNIV 390 Internship Seminar course each semester to provide students with an academic internship course focused on civic professionalism that meets the Engaged Learning University Requirement.

- Provide
one-on-one consultations with faculty on curriculum development, partner
relationships, conflict management, etc.

faculty development of administrative tasks in order to also develop partners
as co-educators, make connections to course
-Develop
curriculum in academic internship courses to achieve deeper learning,
connecting academic and experiential knowledge
-Curating
resources across the community-based learning, service-learning, work-based
learning literature to inform pedagogical approach

Coordinate a community of practice amongst internship faculty to support across
disciplines

Maintains university-wide internship and fieldwork program records and
databases and produce reports on internships, including student placements and
employer partnerships.
- Coordinates and tracks students in internship and fieldwork placements; monitors data and facilitate data input into the centralized database (Peoplesoft) for internship placement and fieldwork placement information.

- Establishes assessment and evaluation tools for the internship
program including feedback forms for employers.

Utilize data to inform program developments, e.g., partner capacity
development, administrative supports needed, etc.

Ensures best practices for academic internships with an emphasis on
high-quality internships as goal
- Conducts site visits of internship sites, in collaboration with community-based learning team.
- Connects academic internship programs with other experiential learning programs, including service-learning, learning portfolios and undergraduate research.

Position
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Curriculum Development, or
related field preferred.
- At least 3-5 years of experience working with internships, community-based learning and/or experiential learning is necessary.
