Dear Colleague,
Here are
highlights for Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) in the month
of November. Please join or renew your membership and stay connected
to our events, activities and opportunities for engagement.
A Message
from Al Richmond
There’s
more to say about my trip to the Deep South and it starts with
highlighting my visit to Jackson State University to meet with Dorothy
Browne, DrPh, MPH, MSW, the founding dean of the School of Public Health.
Dean Browne will move the university forward in launching the state’s only
School of Public Health. Jackson State University is known globally for
their innovative and ‘trailblazing” work through the Jackson Heart Study. I
fully expect that this work and the other academic programing and training
provided by Jackson State University will have global impact on the most
vulnerable around the world.
My trip
culminated with a visit to the University of Alabama – Birmingham for the
2nd Annual Community Engagement conference. The event captured the essence
of building the capacity of community leaders and organization to respond
to the opportunities to partner with academic and other institutions to
address health issues.
The
upcoming weeks are filled with travel to Boston, Denver and Minneapolis for
the Regional Partner Forum. I would love to meet you, our
members and long-time supporters in one of the cities. Sign up today to
participate in one of these amazing sessions. Hope to see you soon!
In
last month’s newsletters, we mistakenly identified Tougaloo College as
being in Alabama. Please pardon our mistake – Tougaloo College is in the
city of Tougaloo, Mississippi.

your Thoughts on the Proposed Revisions to Regulations that Govern Research
on Human Subjects. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
has proposed changes to the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human
Subjects, often referred to as the “Common Rule.” The changes seek to
enhance protections for individuals involved in research while modernizing
rules and improving efficiency. We encourage you to submit your thoughts on their proposed rule changes on
their website by December
