POSITION: Executive Director, Kansas Campus Compact
(full-time, 12-month appointment)
LOCATION: Manhattan, KS
DESCRIPTION: As a part of the national Campus Compact,
the Kansas Campus Compact, one of 35 state compacts nationwide, is an
organization of college presidents who have come together out of a shared
commitment to the public service mission of higher education and the value of
integrating such service into undergraduate learning. Member institutions
include private and public colleges, universities, and community colleges
throughout Kansas. The purpose of Kansas Campus Compact is to: (1) assist
colleges in promoting community-engaged teaching, learning, research, and
service, including service-learning, (2) improve collaboration and build
partnerships at the state level among the faculty and presidents of higher
education institutions (3) provide linkages with other state and national
groups and (4) offer resources, ideas, and information to member campuses that
will improve the quality of teaching and learning, support the development of
Kansas’s communities, promote increased civic responsibility, prepare students
to be active, engaged contributors to society, and stimulate presidential and
student leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director will be the primary
administrator for the organization and the essential link to the national
network. The Executive Director will:
- Develop goals and execute a strategic plan with the KsCC Executive Board to implement the KsCC mission.
- Plan and implement annual conferences, including an annual summit on college efforts to alleviate hunger and a tri-state conference on service-learning and engagement.
- Conduct site visits to member campuses, including meetings with presidents and key faculty and student leadership.
- Design and offer on-site and regional trainings on best practices in service-learning and community engaged education for member campuses.
- Provide technical assistance and programmatic support to administrators, faculty, staff, and students at member campuses for their efforts to strengthen community-based learning and skills for democracy.
- Collect and distribute benchmark data and best practice models on member campuses and evaluate progress in reaching shared goals.
- Create and distribute information to member campuses on national and network news through mailings, newsletters, electronic lists and/or other mechanisms.
- Promote the existence of and relevance of KsCC with state and regional policy-makers, appropriate media contacts, and state, regional, and national organizations.
- Secure funding from public/private sources, to support the advancement of community-campus engagement at all member campuses and in collaboration with other campuses in the region.
- Work with presidents to secure funds through foundations, corporations, and friends.
- Provide responsible oversight of KsCC’s organizational budget.
- Provide the Executive Board with appropriate reports.
- Foster growth of the organization through increased membership from campuses.
- Maintain all aspects of membership services, including recruitment materials and a membership directory.
- Convene meetings of the Executive Board and other ad hoc committees.
- Provide leadership to staff.
- Create an effective working organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
o
Bachelor’s
degree with at least three years of experience in higher education or
non-profit sector
o
Highly
skilled in building collaborations and relating effectively with diverse
audiences
o
Experience
in organizational development
o
Administrative
skills in staff supervision, financial management, program organization and
implementation
o
Excellent
oral, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
o
Demonstrated
leadership ability
o
Proven
fundraising skills and experience with grant writing
o
Community-based
working experience
o
Computer
and word processing skills
o
Flexibility
to travel in-state and nationally
Preferred:
o
Master’s
degree or above in field related to higher education, leadership, non-profit
management, or public policy
o
Experience
in using service-learning in a classroom setting
Salary:
Range
$45,000-$55,000; salary commensurate with training and experience
Timeline:
