The International Center for
Service-Learning in Teacher Education (ICSLTE) is pleased to
announce its call for proposals for the third international conference
Conversations that Matter: Research, Policy, and Practice. The
conference will be held June 21-23, 2012 at Duke University.
We seek proposals that address work for the common good
through academic learning and active civic engagement. We seek presenters who
envision service-learning as a necessary component of teacher education, both
pre-service (educating new teachers) and in-service (ongoing professional
development for practicing employed teachers). We will select proposals that
provide research-based insights, reflect critically on issues of policy and
practice, and raise important questions for international discussion.
Proposals must be submitted by 9pm, PST January 6, 2012
and will be reviewed by an international committee of teacher educators,
classroom teachers, and students. Notification of acceptance will be
on or before February 10, 2012.
The Journal of Research on Service-Learning in Teacher
Education, a new peer-reviewed journal designed to enhance the quality of
research and practice regarding the use of service-learning in teacher
education, will publish a special issue highlighting papers
presented at the June 2012 conference. Publication in this issue of the journal
is open only to authors who presented at the conference. All presenters at this
International conference are invited to submit manuscripts for consideration,
based upon their conference presentations. Submissions are due no later than
September 1, 2012. Details regarding submissions will be available on the
conference web site March 1, 2012.
For information regarding proposal submission or general
questions about the conference, contact Kathy Sikes, Executive Administrative
Director, Kathy.Sikes@duke.edu.
