Cornell University invites applications for the Director of
the Cornell Public Service Center (PSC) position. Established in 1991, the PSC promotes
the mission that the Cornell University experience confirms service as
essential to active citizenship. To fulfill this mission, the PSC has chosen
service-learning as the educational philosophy to guide its programs. Comprised
of over 30 student run organizations, three college readiness outreach grant
programs, signature programs and events as well as other projects and
initiatives, the PSC works in partnership with communities and campus partners
to provide high quality services and influential learning experiences for our

Reporting to the Executive Director of Campus and Community Engagement the
Director of the PSC will provide inclusive leadership and strategic oversight
of programs for students, faculty, alumni, and community partners. As chief
administrator, you are responsible for management of Center programs and
operations, the quality of service to students, faculty and community
organizations and the program planning function and budget. Responsible for
recruiting, hiring, evaluating and supervising all exempt program staff. In
partnership with the Executive Director of Campus and Community Engagement and
the professional staff team, develop long-range planning, center-wide policy
and strategies to ensure consistent achievement of the Center's goals and
mission. Develop and sustain meaningful community partnerships, promote ongoing
service opportunities, secure funding, support faculty initiatives, and create
a culture of engagement across the institution.The PSC is an integral part of the broader university mission of Engaged Cornell, a university-wide initiative to increase high-impact and community-engaged practices by and for students and faculty while multiplying opportunities for partnerships in the local, national, and global arenas. Qualifications
- Masters’ degree in Higher
Education Administration, Education, Social Sciences, Community / Non
Profit Development or related area with 3-5 years’ experience in the
field.
- Solid supervisory and
leadership experience with the proven ability to develop and lead dynamic
and productive teams of staff.
- Demonstrated understanding of
the higher education landscape and the trends related to best practices in
co-curricular, civic / community engagement student centered initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of current
events; including issues and opportunities present in local and regional
communities.
- Demonstrated intercultural
competence and understanding of social justice issues.
- Proven experience with
managing budgets and developing long range funding plans.
- Grant writing and grant
oversight experience.
- Visionary administrator with
a collaborative open management style that fosters participation and
contribution by others.
- Knowledge of the theory and
practice of service learning and student development and additional
relevant theories and best practices in community engagement and
partnerships with a demonstrated ability to apply theories in the
appropriate contexts.
- Proven ability to build and
maintain strong relationships with students, staff, alumni, community
leaders and other key stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and
project planning skills and experience.
- Experience in creating and
facilitating assessments and evaluations.
- Demonstrated strong
interpersonal human relations, public speaking skills and technology
literacy.
- Demonstrated success in
building educational partnerships between community non-profit agencies
and school districts and higher education.
- More than five years’ of
supervisor experience in a similar role.
