globalsl.org - a site dedicated to careful and
conscientious learning, partnership, and sustainable community development
across cultures and around the world – is hiring for two part-time positions
that begin August 1: Social Media Director and Director of Evaluation.
Responsibilities can
be fulfilled online. Both positions will continue for one year and may be
renewed depending upon performance and sponsor support.
The Social Media
Director will
spend ten hours per week engaged in activities relating to ongoing addition of
resources as well as interaction with followers, readers, and allies via
Facebook and Twitter. The individual who fills the position must
therefore be familiar with social media and capable with basic WordPress
functionality, or willing to learn.
Ideally the Social
Media Director will at least have a graduate-student-level grasp of the fields
of international education and service-learning, with a strong emphasis on
community-driven assumptions in learning, partnership, and research. This
individual will be the primary person responsible for catching trending
articles on international voluntourism, community-engaged education, civic
universities, global universities, and efforts to leverage universities’ role
as partners in building a more just and sustainable world.
The social media
director will be expected to fulfill at least 10 hours per week completing work
for the site. The individual must keep regular hours, though those hours may be
set according to that person’s fall schedule. By Thursday at 1 pm each week
(Central Time), the Social Media Director will send to the Editor a list of the
5 most read, most provocative, or otherwise most important articles relating to
the site’s focus area. The Social Media Director will also regularly be asked to
add additional new resources to the research wikis accumulated on the website.
Typically these requests will come directly from the Editor, or through the
Editor’s request to review a particular open access journal for such resources.
The Social Media Director will receive a monthly stipend of $400.
Interested candidates
should send a cover letter and resume, along with names and contact information
for three references, to buildingbetterworld@gmail.com by June 15.
The Director of
Evaluation will
work to support relationships, data analysis, and report writing through
cooperation with ten institutions that are participating in a pilot pre- /
post- study of high impact educational practices. The Director of Evaluation
should anticipate some ebb and flow in respect to work hours. Specifically,
mid-September through mid-October will require a surge in activity.
The Director of
Evaluation must be highly organized, efficient, and comfortable with
quantitative data, qualitative data, narrative writing, and basic report
formatting skills. The Director should also be comfortable learning how to use
new web-based survey applications, developing rules within those surveys, and
maintaining openness and flexibility regarding how best to adapt new
technologies to evaluation. The Director of Evaluation will be paid $25 per
hour on a contract basis, with anticipation of approximately forty hours
($1,000) per month throughout the year, though some months will be heavier than
others.
Interested candidates
should send a cover letter and resume, along with names and contact information
for three references, to buildingbetterworld@gmail.com by June 15.
